Vipers SC new man on the touchline Roberto Oliveira
Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup
Semi Final
Police 0-2 Vipers SC
It will be too early to start getting excited about Vipers SC new man on the touchline Roberto Oliveira but club fans will have liked what they witnessed on Tuesday afternoon after helplessly knocking out Police FC in the Uganda Cup semi-final affair played at Njeru.
Vipers SC talent looked a well drilled outfit with good understanding; playing some quick, neat and exciting brand of football.
The boys looked mentally and physically advantaged over their opponents. Roberto’s maiden display appeared like he had been in the country over two years with the manner in which his team went about their business on the FUFA Technical ground at Njeru against Police FC.
Vipers SC under Fred Kajoba won games but struggled to control games especially against the top sides like URA, KCCA FC, Express FC and even SC Villa. They were up against a solid and stubborn Police FC outfit and coached by one of the best Ugandan coaches.
The Brazilian who was fished from Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, partnered David Bagoole and Byaruhanga Boboosi at the heart of the midfield, teaming them up with Yunus Ssentamu and Milton Karisa with Congolese Cesar Manzoki leading the line.
His flying fullbacks Paul Willa and Disan Galiwango played high up in Police FC half. The solid pair of Bashir Asiku and Livingstone Mulondo and Fabian Mutombora in goal, completed his starting arsenal. Roberto’s free flowing style saw Vipers SC create a host of chances leaving Manzoki with a brace. The Congolese should have left the pitch with a hat-trick to his name but put a glorious chance over the police when left with Police FC goalie Tom Ikara.
Karisa who had a great game with threatening penetration into Police FC goal area had two glorious opportunities but put both to waste before being withdrawn.
Roberto’s substitutions of Mzee Sserunkuma, Ibrahim Orit and Joseph Watambala despite leading the game by two an unanswered goals, demonstrated a coach who will enjoy his stay at St. Marys Stadium at Kitende.
Lawrence Mulindwa who has so far hired top foreign coaches like Mexican Javier Martínez, Portuguese Jorge Duarte, Nigerian Ambrose Chukuma and Portuguese Da Costa, will have appreciated the Brazilian’s emphatic outing against Police and will be itching for the final.
