In a bid to flush ADF out of DRC once and for all, the Congolese government working closely with Uganda has commended a joint military operation Shuja which resulted into the arrest Benjamin Kisokeranio.
Kisokeranio who has been the commander of ADF, was arrested 6 days ago in Uvira- South Kivu.
His arrest has since been confirmed by Congolese government as he attempted to cross into Burundi.
DRC says this is proof of the effectiveness of joint FARDC-UPDF operations and the ongoing state of siege in Ituri and North Kivu.
Benjamin Kisokeranio, financier of the ADF had been wanted for five years, according to the government.
“His arrest is proof of the effectiveness of the actions taken by the President of the Republic, in particular the establishment of a state of siege in this part of the country and the launch of joint operations with the Ugandan army”, reports the report of the Council of Ministers of Friday, January 14.
DRC governments tags the arrest of the rebel leader to the effectiveness of joint intelligence sharing between sister countries, after their intelligence chiefs; Maj Gen. Mandiangu (FARDC) and his counterpart Gen. Abel Kandiho (CMI UPDF) agreed to establish intelligence counter terrorism Centres in both nations.
Officials say the joint intelligence operation has helped the military commanders to design new mechanisms of opening up second axis against the ADF terrorists.
Maj Gen Bombelle Comille Ehola leads the Congolese army while Gen Kayanja Muhanga commands UPDF in the operation.
