The Police on Sunday, June 19, confirmed armed rogue security officers had on Saturday night raided Ntinda Police Station and freed a suspect who had been booked in after he reportedly pulled out his pistol at musician Moses Ssali popularly known as Bebe Cool.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire admitted the incident happened and promised to get back with full details, but had not done so by press time.
“We are yet to get full details of what happened, but we will brief the media on Monday (June 20),” Owoyesigyire said.
He, however, confirmed they had the suspect’s gun.
Bebe Cool alleged that the man wanted to shoot him after he knocked his car in Ntinda on Saturday, but he was quickly disarmed and arrested by a police officer who was at the scene.
“He was later taken to Ntinda Police Station. I was immediately asked by the police officer to go make a statement at the station. On arrival at the station, his colleagues had arrived at the station by rounding it off and had put the police officers at gunpoint . They commanded me to vacate the premises and nearly shot at me. I had to run to my car and the driver took off,” Bebe Cool said.
He said the suspect was later driven away by his colleagues.
Defence Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye condemned the act, but said it was still too early to comment on the matter.
“Let us wait for the police statement. It would be too first to make a comment when I don’t have the full facts,” Kulayigye said.
