In Kotido district located in Karamoja sub region, cholera outbreak was reported in August 2020. In this district alone, 11 people succumbed to cholera and various people were left in critical conditions.
To fight against Cholera in the region and the possible outbreaks in the surrounding areas, the Ministry of Health, led by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine and the Director General Health Services Dr. Henry Mwebesa engaged in the vaccination of communities against cholera.
The exercise was conducted yesterday in Inde Town Council in Madi-Okollo District in West Nile and as per the Ministry of Health statistics, 99.4% coverage was achieved.
It should be noted that on October 24, Dr Mwebesa launched oral cholera vaccination in Ntoroko district. The vaccine is given to all persons above 1 year to protect them against Cholera.
The team also conducted inspections on the construction works in Arua Hospital and support supervision focused on gaps in maternal and child health care.
Other districts that will benefit from the exercise include; Kasese, Moyo, Ntoroko, Busia and Namayingo.
