UBOS Executive Director, Dr Chris Mukiza
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is putting final touches on the preparatory work for the upcoming National Population and Housing Census (NPHC2024).
The Bureau announced this week, that the groundwork, which involves Data Mapping, currently stands at over 92% across.
Dr Chris Mukiza, the UBOS chief executive, announced on Thursday that the mapping of the village-based census areas is now concentrated in the central region.
“We have so far completed 92.1% of data mapping for the whole country and hope to conclude by the end of this month (March),” Mukiza said.
“We are working in the Kampala Metropolitan Area starting this week.”
Enumeration areas consist of 50-80 households, about the size of a single LC1 village.
The process entails among others mapping these areas digitally and establishing the heads of the households.
Dr Mukiza was speaking at the official dissemination of the Uganda Demographic Health Survey Report (2022). The report, – the 7th of its kind – unveiled facts about the different health practices in urban and rural areas within Uganda.
Uganda’s 6th national census since independence will kick off on May 9, 224 and run for 10 days up to the 19th.
UBOS expects to release the preliminary results of the census about a month after the exercise.
