Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has called on the National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah to sanitize the National Assembly, specifically the committee leaders, weeks after the successful impeachment of former DP Rigathi Gachagua.
According to the MP, after the National Assembly sanitized the presidency and impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the security leadership, it was time for the house to clean itself.
“Before we go to recess in December, we must sanitize the Parliament of Kenya especially the committees of Parliament. Kindly leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah, and other leaders in the National Assembly, we need to reconstitute those committees so that we can be able to align the committee leadership,” asserted Ruku on Tuesday.
He added, “And ensure they deliver their mandate to the National Assembly and the people of Kenya.”Â

According to the MP, some of the chairs in the committees should be removed so that the National Assembly can deliver the policies and laws that can save the nation and steer stuck development policies that are causing Kenyans to suffer.
MP Ruku accused some chairmen of the committees of allegedly budgeting graft in the country’s national budget.
The MP challenged Ichung’wah to spearhead the process of ensuring some of these chairpersons of committees who have not delivered for the past two and a half years are removed and make room for new leadership.
The MP has emphasized the need for Kenya to have capable leaders who can serve in their given mandates.
His concerns come after the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula called out committee chairs and vice chairs for serial absenteeism and warned he intends to crack the whip on them.
Speaking on Monday, October 28 during a Parliamentary retreat in Naivasha, Nakuru County, Wetangula cited that the recent trend has had a negative effect paralyzing critical Bills affecting Kenyans.
Wetangula faulted the Chairs and Vice chairs for snubbing important committee meetings neglecting their roles and remaining committed to streamlining legislative processes and eliminating unnecessary delays.
Responding to the faulty behavior of committee chairs and vice chairs, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, encouraged them to prioritize attending House sessions.Â
