Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday, November 5, narrated how the husband of the late Lucy Wambui gifted him a bus while describing the depths of the pair’s friendship.
Gachagua was attending Lucy Wambui’s burial in Redhill, Limuru, days after she lost her life after undergoing a botched surgery.
Speaking before the congregation, which included former governors Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu, Gachagua, who was recently impeached as Kenya’s deputy president, hailed the late Wambui’s husband Francis Ng’ang’a as a true friend.
The ousted DP also hailed Ng’ang’a as an astute businessman who has been his friend for more than three decades.

“Francis and Lucy are a wonderful couple and a wonderful family. Ng’ang’a is an extraordinary businessman who distinguishes himself as a genuine car dealer,” Gachagua stated while recalling how his friend once went to the lengths of gifting him a bus.
“He once gave me a bus and asked me to donate it to a parish of choice,” he added amid applause from the crowd.
The former DP also sent a subtle plea to the Health Ministry urging the docket to protect Kenyans from rogue health facilities that pose a genuine risk to the public.
He went on, “As we bury Lucy, we want to call on our authorities of regulation of medical facilities to protect the people of Kenya from being driven in the wrong direction because Kenyans are simple people and gullible.”
“Because Kenyans are very trusting if you market your product in a certain way, they are likely to believe you and then they end up in a facility that is not licenced and professional, and then we end up in a situation we find ourselves in today.”
Lucy Wambui lost her life several days after undergoing a surgical procedure around her abdominal area.
A post-mortem report from the chief government pathologist confirmed that the late Wambui underwent liposuction surgery but experienced complications two days after the procedure. She passed away on October 26 after a last-ditch attempt to save her by her family, who rushed her to Nairobi Hospital after her condition worsened.
During the late Wambui’s burial, Gachagua could afford to see the funny side to his impeachment as he joked that he had more time for friends now that he no longer held public office.
“At least the positive thing is that we have more time for friends like Ng’ang’a, and friends are very important.”
