Veteran comedian Amooti Omubalanguzi revealed that his first substantial pay was Shs10,000 per night, a sum that held more value back in the day.During those initial years, comedy was far from lucrative, with some comedians earning little to nothing. My first highest payment was Shs10,000 per night, but this was from old times, so that money is worth more now.Despite the small income, Amooti remained dedicated, motivated by his love for comedy rather than the money.Amooti recalled one of his early gigs at a venue in Entebbe called Vogue, near Nkumba. There, he earned Shs5,000 per performance, while the DJ made a notable Shs30,000. In a humorous twist, Amooti shared how he would pay the DJ Shs2,000 from his Shs5,000 earnings to hitch a ride home.My goal wasn’t money; it was reaching the top and making comedy appreciated in Uganda.
