The Central Organisation of Trade Unions in Kenya (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Thursday congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump announcing that Kenyan workers had welcomed his re-election warmly considering the strong relationship between Kenya and the United States.
Through a statement, Atwoli thanked God for protecting Trump and wished him favour in his second term.
“The Central Organization of Trade Unions (Kenya), COTU (K), would like to congratulate President-elect Donald J. Trump following his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. Indeed, we thank God for saving and protecting Trump to lead America at such a critical time,” read the statement in part.
Atwoli also termed Trump’s win as a fresh air of sanity that would bring global stability to the global stage.
“As Kenyan workers, it remains our hope and trust that President Trump will usher in the much-needed sanity considering the rise of ungodly leaders with ungodly public policies, which transcend their borders, on the very platform,” said Atwoli.

He added that several countries would benefit from Trump’s leadership as he does not shy away from declaring his stand on several key issues.
“Noteworthy, countries world over are in dire need of strong leaders who are equally God fearing and can take decisive action on numerous issues at the global stage,” said Atwoli.
He also appealed to Trump to acknowledge and work seamlessly with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to enhance the welfare and interests of the American Workers whose votes contributed to his victory.
The statement by COTU comes shortly after the Kenyan government, through Trade Principal Secretary (PS) Alfred K’Ombudo, disputed reports claiming that the reelection would mean that several trade agreements with the US would be set aside.
”Kenya and the United States of America have a long-standing trade, investment, and development cooperation relationship that is based on common and enduring principles,’’ K’Ombudo stated while responding to a publication by Business Daily.
Several other Kenyan politicians congratulated Trump and expressed optimism about his leadership.
On Wednesday, President Ruto also praised Trump’s reelection and welcomed further collaboration between the two nations.
“As you embark on this phase of your journey of leadership, Kenya stands ready to further enhance our cooperation on matters of mutual interest including trade, investment, technology & innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development,” Ruto stated.
