A Kenyan football coach is set to spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was slapped with a 110-year prison sentence for engaging in child pornography and other crimes.
The  Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) successfully prosecuted the coach in a Kilifi Court for the defilement of young boys who are said to have been his players.
In her ruling, Kilifi Principal Magistrate Ivy Wasike fined the suspect Ksh90 million or in default served an extra 110 years for a spate of crimes, including possession of videos with obscene images of a minor aged 11 years and trafficking in persons for the purposes of exploiting them sexually.
Under the Sexual offence act of 2006, the suspect was handed the maximum penalty for defiling a minor.

The former youth football coach and soon-to-be convict allegedly defiled two young boys, and proceeded to record his acts on a mobile phone.
The court also heard that the suspect took advantage of the impressionable nature of the young boys, promising them financial aid and educational opportunities in exchange for sexual favours.
“Prosecution detailed to the court how the accused, who managed a football team consisting of players under the age of 15, would recruit the minors and offer their families financial support as a way of buying their silence for his actions,” a statement from the DPP said.
The 29-year-old suspect committed his crimes between 2022 and 2023, around the Mwembe Tayari area in Malindi sub-county. Since his sentences will run concurrently, Muriithi will almost certainly die behind bars.
