Kenyan journalist Sarafina Robi has landed a plum job after she was recruited by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The journalist’s new job seals her exit from the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) where she worked as a news anchor and reporter for five years.
Sarafina anchored news on KBC TV every Monday and Tuesday at 7pm and mostly covered stories that touched on the environment, science, and human interest.
In an Instagram post, Sarafina announced her exit, reminiscing about her time at KBC.

“I still remember the first time I received a call to start working at KBC, I was so excited I cried so much! For six years, I have met people who have molded me into the journalist I am today. Today I cried a lot saying goodbye because I am not so good at goodbyes and I had gotten pretty attached to the national broadcaster,” the post read.
Sarafina went ahead to thank KBC for helping her develop into a well-rounded journalist and realize the importance of staying professional.
“KBC has taught me the importance of being professional, given me some pretty good work ethic na for that nitawamiss sana lakini tutakutana field,” she mentioned.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Sarafina describes herself as a multimedia journalist with extensive experience in all fields of journalism.
She has covered environment and science stories for more than five years, ranging from impactful feature stories, and summit coverage, to interviews with major industry players in different sectors, including being the first Kenyan journalist to interview the First Female Chief Justice of Kenya Martha Koome.
Sarafina has also worked as a court reporter and produced stories in other dockets such as health, education, and technology.
In 2024 she was nominated and made it to the finals of the 12th Annual Journalism Excellence Awards under the Development and Public Relations affairs reporting.
She is also a board member at a Non-Governmental organization seeking to empower girls and boys and advocate against FGM.
