I have always wished for a proper local foods’ restaurant in Naalya – a place one could grab katogo in the morning – a place where all this could be done in comfort. And the gods of the sky decided to make this dream come true.Right at the Naalya by-pass roundabout, at what used to be formerly known as Valley Point, there’s Mcwil Restaurant. On Saturday morning, I paid them a visit. One of the advantages is the spacious parking, and a washing bay that operates nearby. Someone could choose to hit two birds with one stone. There’s also a plants and flower shop, for those interested in gardening. I ordered for Katogo (took some time), but this could be forgiven. And I chose the outside table. Shortly afterwards, a couple requested to join me at my table (they were Kenyans). I guess Mcwil should capitalize on more outdoor tables and seats. You get to enjoy all the human and car traffic as it passes by the Northern By-pass.For travellers that seek a meeting point before embarking on the long journeys, this place is also it. For the single men and women in Naalya, this is a place to get a classic local foods meal. I enjoyed the Katogo. It was the classic Katogo of beer. The pieces of meat were plenty, there was an avocado on the side. My black tea came with the option of honey. Yes, we are on that trend of honey.Of course, the manager struggled with change on this day (but again, these things are forgiven for a new place). The matooke in the Katogo were on the point. You see once the food is good, everything else gets forgiven. I also loved the manager’s personality. He’s a relaxed gentleman. He has peace around him. You can tell he wants people to have a good local foods experience.Even the tables were made from that hard wood. Feels good to have a meal on wood, and not on some plastic. I will be going to Mcwil for my lunch. But it would be good to have more people coming to this restaurant. I really want it to work. Naalya has not had a proper local foods restaurant in a long while. It’s time to make this one count. You get it people. You get it.There will be a follow-up to this story. Do it for Mcwil restaurant, do it for the spirit of local food in Naalya.Related
