Kanungu police have launched investigations into the suspected suicide of a Coca-Cola depot worker, whose decomposing body was discovered in a bush on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Arthur Nahurira, 40, was a resident of Kigango Cell, Karuhembe Parish, Kebisoni Sub-county in Rukungiri District. He worked at a Coca-Cola depot in Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District.
According to police reports, Nahurira disappeared from his home in Kasiro Cell, Town Ward, Kihihi Town Council on the night of January 30, 2025, at around 10:40 PM. His disappearance was reported to Kihihi Police Station on February 1 by his brother, Ndwana Saulo.
Prior to his disappearance, Nahurira had reportedly sent a farewell message to his aunt, Kiconco Edith. The contents of the message have not been disclosed by authorities.
On February 5, at around 9 AM, residents alerted police after detecting a foul smell along the roadside. Upon inspection, they found Nahurira’s decomposing body in a nearby bush.
At the scene, police recovered a Coca-Cola bottle containing an unidentified substance and a white polythene bag containing a chemical suspected to be Forodan, a type of pesticide. These items have led authorities to suspect that he may have taken poison.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, documented the scene and transported the body to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Nahurira was found dressed in black trousers, brown shoes, grey socks, and a white sweater.
