Uganda’s national women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, has received a significant boost ahead of the AfroBasket 2025 tournament, thanks to a joint donation from PostBank Uganda and Crown Beverages Limited.
The donation, which includes financial support and hydration supplies, is aimed at celebrating the team’s outstanding performance in recent games, including their qualification for the AfroBasket tournament.
“We are committed to supporting excellence and resilience, values that the Gazelles have exemplified on their incredible journey to the AfroBasket tournament,” said Priscilla Akora, Head of Marketing and Communications at PostBank Uganda.
The AfroBasket tournament, set to take place in Ivory Coast from July 27 to August 3, 2025, is the premier women’s basketball competition in Africa. The Gazelles’ participation in the tournament is a significant milestone for women’s sports in Uganda.
“This initiative is timely, and we hope it will help the team stay refreshed and energized as they prepare for the upcoming tournaments,” said Againe Sandra, Corporate Communications Manager at Crown Beverages Limited.

“We believe that if we join efforts with partners like PostBank and CBL, we can pave the way for nurturing local talent and sports in the country, particularly women’s sports,” said Mrs. Ainematsiko Racheal Atuhairwe, Woman Commissioner under FUBA.
The Gazelles’ Deputy Captain, Akello Hope Agnes, appreciated the donation, saying it will inspire the team to soar to greater heights as they represent Uganda at the AfroBasket tournament.
The donation is part of PostBank Uganda’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, which aim to promote youth and women empowerment in Uganda.
