KAMPALA, March 10, 2025 – Buganda raod court on Monday granted bail to five women affiliated with the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) – Katonga faction, who had spent three weeks on remand on charges of causing a public nuisance.
The accused, including Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, Ingrid Turinawe, Faridah Nangozi, Namubiru Shadia, and Kabayiza Phiona, were arrested while protesting the detention of veteran opposition leader Kizza Besigye and other political prisoners.
At their previous court appearance, Kabayiza missed the session, citing a lack of appropriate clothing. On Monday, prison authorities barred the women from wearing T-shirts bearing political slogans.
Instead, they appeared in court dressed in navy-blue T-shirts and trousers, accessorized with red, black, and yellow scarves—colors reflecting their party affiliation.
Each of the women was granted a non-cash bail of 500,000 Ugandan shillings.
