EC declines to release Pres Museveni’s academic documents

The Electoral Commission has declined to release President Museveni’s academic documents as requested for by lawyer Muwada Nkunyingi who subscribes to Robert Kyagulanyi’s National Unity Platform (NUP).The fuss started after lawyer Male Mabirizi asked for Bobi Wine’s academic documents that the election body released before he went to court to contest a disparity in Kyagulanyi’s age and authenticity of his academic documents.<br>Mabirizi raised a couple of issues in his petition among which he contends that there is no way Bobi Wine who claims to be 38 years old could have finished his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) in 1998.<br>The UACE is the minimum requirement for one to run for president.“I should not be blamed for always being extraordinary. People who I went to school with know that I did not study all classes. For instance, I did Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) when I was in Primary Six and I passed to enter Senior One,” Bobi Wine responded.<br>In a statement dated 3rd September 2020, the EC started off with addressing doubts to whether President Museveni’s documents were verified back in 2016.<br>“Kindly note and be informed that the academic documents for candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as presented in 2016 didn’t require verification since they are governed under section 4 (15) of the Presidential Act, 2005.” Reads part of the statement.<br>They also go ahead to clarify that the said candidate was duly and legally nominated.<br>“That particular issue was conclusively canvassed in Presidential election petition No 01 of 2018 (Amama Mbabazi Vs Museveni, EC and Ors).<br>“The Electoral Commission which took a few days to release my academic documents is now speaking in tongues when it comes to Gen. Museveni's documents. The emperor is naked!” Bobi Wine tweeted as he commented on the statement.Social has in the past days been awash with posts of people eagerly waiting for the said documents.<br>The EC statement was signed by Mulekwah Leonard, the electoral body’s Acting Secretary Electoral Commission.<br><br clear="all">
