Over the weekend, the National Unity Platform party unleashed a list of the duly nominated candidates for the various elective seats but what has attracted public traction is the fate of the musician, Joseph Mayanja alias Dr. Chameleone.

The NUP party spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi in a Sunday exclusive interview at NTV weighed in on what could have influenced the final resolve of the party committee. According to Ssenyonyi, the team reached to various divisions conducting silent surveys amongst people of various occupations. “We intervened with people from Boda Boda places, markets, door to doo to see what the people were saying. We realized that Hon. Ssebagala had more edge than Jose Mayanja,” remarked Joel. He inistsd that the team’s findings were widely reliant on the people’s views about the competing candidates. “Teams were sent on ground to ascertain what the people were saying on ground because this is People Power. The people must he involved in the selection process,” he added. He however urged the musician to file in a complaint where he feels dissatisfied instead of disputing the outcome publicly.
A leaked document purportedly believed to have been used by the committee is making rounds on social media platforms where a span of factors that were based on have gone public. Among what the committee look at was the name of the candidate, sustainability of a campaign, and ‘religious’ denomination among other things. It was established that Joseph Mayanja, a Catholic could not appeal to a largely Muslim dominated Kampala community. Even his name, Chameleone was more known than the original name, Mayanja among other things.
