Forum for Democratic Change’s Presidential candidates (PHOTO/Courtesy).KAMPALA – The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) are back to the drawing board after police blocked the joint campaigns for their presidential flag bearers.
The party candidates for the party flag, FDC president Patrick Amuriat Oboi and party chairman Wasswa Birigwa, are supposed to jointly meet delegates from different regions until the end of September before a delegates conference next month chooses the final candidate.
But FDC Deputy Spokesperson John Kikonyogo told journalists on Monday that police have blocked the campaigns on grounds that they do not meet the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Kikonyogo said their meetings were not supposed to exceed 50 people, according to police guidelines, but the situation on ground was different.
“We were supposed to be in Kamuli last week to meet our delegates in Busoga region, but these delegates are more than 100. And you know the police will be more than happy to disperse us,” he said.
Kikonyogo the party top management will meet this week to find a quick solution pending polls on Thursday October 1st 2020.
“Our elections will be there at the beginning of next month, management will sit this week after harmonizing with the Police and decide on the way forward.
At the moment, he said the two candidates are individually campaigning.
Our Presidential contenders are doing their campaigns around the country. As we talk now, Hon Amuriat is in the Eastern Part of Uganda and Ambassador Birigwa is heading to Acholi.”
