The Kampala City Lord Mayor seat has been granted to incumbent Kawmpe North MP, Hon. Latiff Ssebaggala Ssengendo after satisfying the Elections Management Committee vetting process as the most credible and suitable for the position. This has left his opponent and challenger, Joseph Mayanja alias Dr. Jose Chameleone ranting and vowing to rage on with the fight even without a NUP ticket and proceed as an independent candidate. “If Bobi Wine and NUP truthfully believe in his generation, then I am the right candidate to be handed the NUP ticket,” Chameleone said. The musician also insists that he and the NUP principal have been long time contemporaries and therefore denying him a party flag would be ‘unfair’ to their music history.
Through his aide, Dr. Chameleone has confirmed that he will participate in the elections as an independent candidate banking on support from fellow artistes like Mukiibi Sadat alias Khalifa Aganaga who pledges to mobilize for him in Rubaga South.
List of duly nominated Mayors in KampalaDr. Chameleone is not the only disgruntled person to be denied a party flag. Nsubuga Muhammad alias ‘Eddoboozi lya Makerere’ has been dropped despite being a sworn People Power cadre from day one. Also dropped is People Power’s first guild president, Tundulu Jonathan of Kyambogo University.
