Archbishop Kazimba at Makerere University
The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has today paid a visit to Makerere University’s Ivory Tower which was gutted by two fires on Saturday and Sunday.
Kazimba who was received at the University by Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, the chaplain of St Francis Chapel, called for thorough investigations into the cause of the blazes.
Fire was first reported at Makerere University’s iconic main building (the Ivory Tower) on Saturday destroying top offices including finance, internal audit, Human Resource, central registry, University Secretary and Public Relations.
Another fire was reported on Sunday and ravaged the eastern wing of the Ivory Tower which houses University Council office.
Makerere’s Ivory Tower was ravaged by two firesWhile visiting the university on Monday, Kazimba expressed his sincere condolences to the university and called for thorough investigations into the fire outbreak.
“We offer our deep condolences to the wider Makerere University on the destruction of the historic main administration building from Saturday night’s fire. We hope there will be a thorough investigation to determine the cause,” he said.
The Ivory Tower, built by the whites in 1938 is Makerere University’s most recognized land mark.
The University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe said on Sunday that the Ivory Tower will be rebuilt.
