Kampala Metropolitan Police in a joint security operation with the Local Defence Unit (LDU)on Monday night arrested 18 people in Kampala city and recovered suspected stolen items including an assortment of narcotics.
The operations included day and night raids carried out in downtown Kampala around Kiseka market, Arua park, Kisenyi bus terminal, Cooper Complex andĀ Nakivibo areas.
The suspects yet to be identified are currently in detention at Central police station were arrested while drinking alcohol from different joints and bars and which is againstĀ the set Covid19 guidelines by the Ministry of Health.
Kampala Metropolitan Police said the suspects have been charged with different counts including violating the presidential directives aimed at deterring the spread of Covid19 in the country.
In his recent Covid19 address to the nation, President Museveni maintained the curfew and lockdown on bars and night clubs.
Relatedly, the commander of Operations of Kampala Central Police station ASP Ivan Nduhura and a team of operatives carried out an operation at Cooper Complex where they arrested people who selling suspected stolen mobile phones.
In the operation, 5 suspects were arrested and 90 suspected stolen phones were recovered.
Cooper Complex has for a long time remained a hot spot of stolen mobile phones in Kampala city and a base of a highly organised criminal cartels.
Similarly, police also arrested 8 marijuana dealers from Arua park and recovered over 180 ready rolled sticks.
Police said that when their files are complete, they will be arraigned courts of law and charged accordingly.
