The Uganda police force have warned the National Unity Platform party presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine to call off his planned peaceful procession to the UN human rights Commission offices in Kololo, Kampala.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the police have not cleared the procession to proceed and therefore they will intervene and disperse and arrest all the people who will attend. Onyango adds that the NUP party did not even write to the office of the Inspector general of police ahead of their planned march.
“Processions are not allowed due to covid guidelines. If you want to hold one you have to seek approval from the office of the IGP. As far as we know, only 3 people have been cleared to go to the UN offices,” Onyango says. “We therefore urge them not to violate covid guidelines and the Public order management act, 2013,” he adds.
However, the NUP party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi says police have failed to help Ugandans and therefore they should leave the citizens to seek solutions for themselves. “Police have been at the forefront of human rights violations. They should allow us to seek answers from where we deem fit. If the the UN human rights Commission have better solutions then that’s where we will go as NUP,” Ssenyonyi says. “Police cannot decide for us on the number of people who will attend,” he adds.
