The government of Kenya has released Ksh 8.7 billion that will be distributed to 1.1 million beneficiaries spread over four months from September 2020.
The Inua Jamii cash is aimed at uplifting the lives of the poor and the vulnerable citizens in Kenya through regular and reliable monthly cash transfers.
“The payment commences on Monday, February 22 through the four contracted banks. The beneficiaries will receive Ksh 8,000 each,” said Nelson Marwa, the Social Protection Permanent Secretary.

For one to receive the Inua Jamii funds, they must be eligible for:
Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) – An extremely poor household with one or more OVCs as a permanent member, a household with a caregiver who is chronically ill and/or unable to perform his/her duties or a household not benefiting from any social assistance programme.
Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) – A Kenyan citizen, 70 years and above, not receiving a pension, not enrolled in any other cash transfer program and residing in a particular location for more than a year.
Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer (PWSD-CT) – Having a person with severe disability (PWSD), who is a Kenyan citizen, not enrolled in any other cash transfer program and residing in a particular location for more than a year.
Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) – Vulnerable and poor households of Northern Kenya, residing in the poorest arid counties of Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera and Wajir.
To apply for the Inua Jamii funds:
Visit your local District Social Development Officer in your District Office to apply for the older person’s grant (Inua Jamii cash transfer Program)
You will be given an application form by the social development officer to fill. The application form is not available online, and you can only get it at your nearest District Social Development Office
You will be required to provide your National Identification Card so as to prove your age and place of residence. Note; the cash transfer is only available for Kenyan citizens above the age of 70 years.
After submission of your application period, your bio-data will be captured for the vetting processing to begin. During vetting, applicants will have to go through a community validation exercise before the first payment cycle.
You will also be required to open a bank account with the Payment Service Providers (PSP) who handle the cash transfer. You can open your bank account in any of the following banks: Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, Cooperative Bank or Post Bank.
After submission of your application and all the required documents, and lapse of vetting period (usually three months). You or the person you have listed as a beneficiary will receive your first payment of Ksh. 2,000 per month through your (PSP)
Payment is usually made after two months which totals to Ksh 4000
The reception of Inua Jamii funds by beneficiaries is facilitated by:
County Coordinators (CC) provides administrative support to the sub-county offices while Sub-county Officer (SCO), including Children Services Officer (CSO) and Social Development Officer (SDO) support the implementation of cash transfer programs and engagement with beneficiaries.
Staff from Project Implementation and Learning Unit (PILU) assist the beneficiaries of HSNP in the four counties of Turkana, Wajir, Mandera and Marsabit. HSNP is managed by the National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA).
