A meeting between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga and the former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) boss Mukhisa Kituyi sparked conversation among Kenyans.
Kituyi recently stepped down from his post as UNCTAD boss to join the presidential race in 2022.
The two leaders met on Thursday, February 18, alongside Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Senator James Orengo. Describing them as long time allies, Raila took to social media to express his gratitude.

File “Brunch with my long-time allies Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana and Daktari Mukhisa Kituyi. Senator James Orengo also showed up.Â
“Good seeing Daktari Kituyi after such a long time away from home,” Raila stated.
The meeting elicited debate as Kenyans hinted at a possible alliance between the leaders ahead of 2022 elections campaign.Â
“Let the Professor be the flag-bearer of the newly formed alliance, deputised by Daktari. That would be a formidable force.
“I know you will form a political coalition with Mukhisa Kituyi and prof Kivutha Kibwana. Both of you have already shown interest in 2022 presidential election.
“Are you cooking something tungoje dinning room the 5th,” Some of the comments read.
As the political scene in the country gears up for next year’s elections, politicians are prone to crafting various strategies aimed at securing their interests. Among these strategies include formation of political factions and alliances.Â
In the past, Raila has been in major coalitions such as National Super Alliance (NASA) which he formed in January 2017Â alongside allies such as Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetang’ula (FORD-Kenya)Â and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC). The coalition was meant to curb Jubilee political force led by Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto.Â
In 2002, Raila dropped his presidential bid and joined Mwai Kibaki’s National Rainbow Coalition which removed the Kenya African National Union (KANU) from power.
