KAMPALA — The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has awarded 10 fresh graduates, four of whom are female to undertake the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA-U) qualification, courtesy of the institute.
This is the second batch of the ICPAU scholarship initiative launched in 2019.
According to scholarship guidelines, ICPAU will cover the bigger portion of the course costs —availing registration fees, annual studentship renewal fees, provide study materials and examinations fees.
The applicants will among others meet their tuition fees, annual NCHE fees and transport costs.
They institute intends to help fresh graduates from different public and private universities around Uganda undertake the CPA qualification in order to professionalise accountancy in Uganda.
Mr. John Bosco Ntangaare, the Director Education at the institute said that in addition to taking into account all the chartered universities that the institute started with, the scholarships also focused on excellence from the graduates.
CPA Stephen Muchelule who provided a keynote address tipped the successful applicants on completing the 2 and a half years’ course on time.
Muchelule urged the graduates to prepare adequately and avoid cramming but study to understand and move with the changing dynamics of accountancy.
Laughing the second batch, Fredrick Kibedi, the president ICPAU, said they are attracting and inviting the young generation who will continue their legacy and relevance.
He implored scholars to pay particular attention to how they will be able to be professional.
Once the beneficiaries have completed the CPA course, they can work in any East African Community country without having to sit further examinations.
The CPA syllabus is benchmarked on international education standards and legal framework for Uganda.
The institute adopted international accounting standards, international auditing standards and international public sector accounting standards which are all embedded in the syllabus.
