4 Cops have been thrown into police cells for gunning down Farouk Samanya, a Boda Boda rider in Jinja City.
The cops attached to the Filed Force Unit- FFU are accused of opening fire on an irate crowd of people who were protesting an accident by a police patrol vehicle at 7 pm.
The patrol truck reportedly knocked down a Boda Boda rider at Mailo Mbili roundabout along Jinja-Iganga road.
This angered Boda Boda around who confronted the police officers and demanded that they take their colleague to the hospital for treatment.
However, when the police officers refused, the cyclists pelted the police personnel with stones.
The cops instead started firing live bullets directly at the crowd, killing Samanya instantly and injuring another person 21-year-old Shaluwa Namukose who is nursing bullet wounds at Alshafa hospital.
The Kiira region police spokesperson, Abbey Ngako says thas not revealed the identities of the officers but says they are being detained at Nalufenya Police Station.
He adds that their guns have been taken to the government analytical laboratory for a forensic audit.
