Ochora (c) being unveiled by NUP this week
Acholi’s renowned businessman Charles Ochora has been unveiled as a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party after he defected from the ruling NRM.
Ochora was this week also unveiled as NUP’s flag bearer for Aruu South MP seat in which he will take on Samuel Odonga Otto.
Ochora lost the recent NRM primaries to one Helen Aceng who was declared NRM flag bearer for Aruu South constituency. Ochora described the result as a sham and quit NRM for NUP Party.
Dr Lina Zedriga, the NUP president, said Ochora was voted in a transparent exercise and that the declaration shows that NUP is a nationwide party not only for Kampala as some people think.
“Today we officially started on a series of unveiling the platform candidates in Acholi subregion and the Northern Region at large. We also officially welcomed Ochora into the platform. Ochora intends to represent the Party for Member of Parliament against Mr Odonga Otto in Aruu County, Pader District,” she said on Monday.
Ochora said he decided to leave the NRM because it promotes corruption.
