On Wednesday September 23, 2020, a police patrol unit attached to Gulu district police arrested two South Sudanese nationals and two other men who were in possession of a gun and rounds of ammunition.
According to Police, the men were arrested at a road snap check at a place called Palabel along the Gulu-Nimule high way.
“Our patrollers intercepted motor vehicle Registration Number UBG 877S, a Toyota Wish white in colour with four occupants moving towards Gulu from Nimule, Uganda-S.Sudan boarder,” said ASP Patrick Okema, the Aswa regional police spokesperson.
“On searching the vehicle, they discovered a pistol with 15 rounds of live ammunition,” he added.
However, on interrogation, the police report indicates that the occupants couldn’t give proper account of themselves and the pistol.
They are identified as Lemi Chris, a resident of Ndejje Kanyanya, Wakiso District, their driver, Kiir Angello, 34 years, a South Sudanese national from Juba who is also musician.
The other two are Bol Ngor 29 years, a South Sudanese businessman from Juba and Safi Adam 33 years, a driver by profession and resident of Bweyale, Kiryandongo District.
The suspects are still detained at Atiak Police Station on charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm.
The motor vehicle and pistol have been exhibited as inquiries are underway.
