Tributes have started to pour in for the fallen Acholi Traditional Singer, Ogwang Clippa who succumbed to diabetes on Thursday morning from Gulu regional referral hospital
Ogwang 84, has been famous for singing with a traditional instrument known as ‘’Nanga.’’
He had recorded hundreds of songs over the four decades of his career.
His songs touched many in Acholi and beyond; he sang about peace, land grabbing, marriage among others.
Mr. Ogwang, was this week admitted at Gulu Hospital’s private wing and he was accompanied by his wife and Children.
His condition worsened until this morning when he was pronounced dead.
Francis Ojok Odong, a film maker and a Cultural Music enthusiast in a tribute wrote: ‘’This Morning as the Angels of the Lord escorts you home, I celebrate your life and feel deeply honored that I shared a lifetime in which you lived.’’
Emar Okano, a Journalist who wrote about Mr. Ogwang’s sickness challenged the Acholi cultural institution to fly Acholi flag at half-mast and also urged Radio stations in Acholi sub-region to play his song, after every 2 hours.
Mr. Ogwang, who hails from Lapono sub-county in Agago district is a clan brother to the current Chief Justice of Uganda, Alfonse Owiny-Dollo
In 2018, Owiny-Dollo and other well-wishers contributed money for the Construction of Mr. Ogwang’s house in Agago district which was still incomplete at the time of his passing.
In an interview with our reporter, Fiona Akwero Ogwang, a daughter to the ‘Nanga’ Maestro described his Father’s death as a big blow to the family adding that they are doing everything possible to give their father a befitting send-off.

Mr. Ogwang is survived by a widow and over 10 Children from two Wives. His body has been taken to the 4th division barracks Mortuary in Gulu city awaiting burial plans.
