A Pass has voiced his concerns about the state of the country’s music industry, particularly when it comes to breaking into the international market. According to him, most Ugandan artists are not doing enough to appeal to global audiences, a gap that continues to hinder the industry’s progress on a larger stage. In a recent interview with Galaxy TV, A Pass mentioned the challenges local musicians face, noting that the current versions of Ugandan songs lack the universal appeal necessary to thrive internationally. Our music cannot play anywhere in Nigeria or elsewhere Despite his critique, A Pass credited Bebe Cool’s efforts to elevate the industry. I think Bebe Cool is trying to do something. I feel like he’s trying to do something with the sound. It may be late or it may not be late because I don’t know what will come out. But with what I’m seeing in terms of sound, we can’t compete with something that can’t be played that side.A Pass also noted the importance of developing a unique and adaptable Ugandan sound, rather than attempting to mimic foreign styles. He noted that foreign audiences often have specific tastes, making it crucial for Ugandan artists to incorporate their native sounds. Ugandans, we have to add the sounds we have and make one, or else it’s hard to penetrate in an area with a sound they aren’t familiar with. Our sound is very locally viable.
