In a high profile cabinet meeting held Wednesday evening, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa expressed dismay with how the speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among was clashing with the executive over the looming Nyege Nyege festival.
According to information exclusively shared by cabinet sources, Museveni ordered the speaker to stick to legislation and leave cabinet and government to do the implementation of laws.
Earlier yesterday, the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja minus consulting Parliament went on to clear the festival after an interface with its organizers. Nabbanja was told that since its inception around 2014, the allegations raised by the Tororo district woman Member of Parliament Hon. Sarah Opendi that Nyege Nyege is a ‘hub of immorality’ are baseless and devoid of facts.
Nabbanja also backed the event on grounds that close to 8000 foreign tourists had already paid for the event. The event is said to have generated foreign revenue that is a boost to the economy. Among on the other hand says it is unrealistic to trade the morals of the country for money.
In his decree an infuriated Gen. Museveni warned the speaker to desist from clashing with cabinet. He urged Among to stick to matters of the August house other than keep clashing with government.
Some state house sources say the entire organization of the Nyege Nyege festival has a partial input of some members of the first family like Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Odrek Rwabwogo.
