Opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye has again been arrested at downtown Kampala, after he beat security to protest the high commodity prices.
Besigye was dragged into his car like a chicken thief by a swarm of police officers while protesting on Tuesday morning.
The leader of pressure group People’s Front for Transition recently launched another campaign dubbed “State of crisis in Uganda” shortly after he was granted bail from Luzira Prison.
The latest campaign is aimed at castigating the government for thoughtless spending in the face of increasing inflation.
Clad in his usual blue checked hooded shirt, Besigye entered the crowded streets downtown with mega phones preaching against skyrocketing prices. He stated to gathering crowds cheering him that the budget reading for the 2022/2023 financial year does not hold any water because the monies will be misused.
The new (financial) year is here, we should not fund Museveni,” Besigye said.
Hardly would he conclude his speech when police and UPDF military soldiers arrived, blocking his protest.
Besigye was immediately ordered to move back into his car, before it was towed away. He has been detained at Central Police Station (CPS)in Kampala.
Besigye’s most recent arrest comes just days after he was granted a 3 million shillings cash bail from Luzira Maximum prison. He was thrown into jail following another protest at Arua Park where he was addressing crowds over hiked prices.
He was consequently taken to the Central Police Station in Kampala and later transferred to Nagalama Police Station where he spent a night before being jailed..
President Yoweri Museveni is today presiding over the National budget reading at Kololo ceremonial grounds.
