The National Unity Platform party president also an alumnus of Makerere University has called for an immediate investigation into the fire which ravaged the iconic main building on Sunday morning.

The Kyadondo East legislator just like most alumni believe that this fire is not coincidental but intentional given the fact that it sprang from a specific section (Accounts and Finance office) which is under probe over the missing shs 8 billion. The president, Yoweri Museveni in his Sunday night address on covid admitted that there was some element of negligence that could have led to the fire. “I think the Vice Chancellor will do something on his staff due to negligence that led to the fire outbreak,” Museveni said on Sunday.
The element of negligence doubled with collusion could have triggered the fire according to emerging reliable information from people residing inside the university. Majority pin the university bursar, Yusuf Kiranda to have routinely left office in very late hours at about 11pm and 12am. It should be noted that main building has CCTV surveillance cameras which captured each and every moment but it is now difficult to rely on this technology since it was also reduced to ashes in the roaring Sunday flames.
Also implicated in the Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe who is widely regarded a messenger of destruction at the Ivory Tower. Sources say he was part and parcel of the money laundering deal with the National Insurance Company (NIC) that cost the university a huge loss of about UGX 8 billion.
“What a sad morning to wake up to the Ivory Tower in flames! Leaves so many questions than answers. Can we have an independent and expeditious investigation in this matter?,” Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, a presidential candidate and 2003 graduate of Music, Dance and Drama stated on Sunday.
