Zaake tortured himself in custody-Minister Obiga
According to Kania, Bobi Wine and Amuriat had planned to defy the Electoral Commission regulations and hold processions to venue and yet this would have eased the spread of covid. “They were given clear route charts to follow but still they insisted on using undesignated routes. What police did was extremely good and I’m impressed that they actes professionally,” Kania says. “We want to warn all candidates to desist from using this election season as a chance to distort the peace of this country. We will retaliate accordingly,” Kania adds. Kania last fell in the spotlight earlier this year when he made controverial statements that the Mityana municipality legislator Zaake Francis Butebi tortured himself while in security custody.
EC reacts
The Electoral Commission after a while of silence has today come out to react on the Tuesday events amidst a public outcry with people wondering why the EC could nominate a candidate (Amuriat of FDC) who was forcefully arraigned to the venue like a village thief. According to the EC spokesperson Paul Bukenya, they are reviewing circumstances that could have incited the security forces against specific candidates. “We will review the videos and see what went wrong,” Bukenya said this Wednesday morning. “These are our candidates, they are our property. It’s our obligation to ensure their safety,” Bukenya adds.
