Mayuge residents are busy laying tracks for a monster crocodile that swallowed a 16-year-old boy on Thursday last week while swimming on Lake Victoria in the company of his friends.
The deceased Shafic Watangwa, a resident of Musubi village in Bukatube Sub County, was eaten alive by a crocodile which has also run off with his body.
Watangwa decided to go for a swim with his 2 friends in the evening at about 6 pm when the crocodile surrounded them before grabbing the deceased and disappearing into the water with the lifeless body.
Abdul Masaba, the deceased’s father says they have discovered body parts of his son on Sunday retrieved from a swamp along Lake Victoria shoreline.
The grieving father says the upper chest and legs of the deceased were found 4 days after he was eaten although the remaining body parts are suspected to have been completely eaten up by the crocodile.
He says they have since laid traps at the different points of the shoreline with the aim of tracking down the killer crocodile but so far in vain.
The Busoga East police spokesperson, James Mubi says that sent out marine units to mount a search for Watangwa’s body.
Crocodile attacks are rampant in Jinja and Mukono districts. The crocodiles roam the shorelines of Lake Victoria causing fear among residents especially among the fishermen.
