A routine evening turned into pure carnage at Mayanja Valley along the Kampala-Bombo Road, as a speeding Fuso truck turned the highway into a death trap.
What started as a horrific crash with five lives lost has now claimed seven victims, with now 19 others nursing injuries.
Eyewitnesses say the driver of the killer truck (Reg. UBK 769A) lost control as he thundered downhill, smashing into nine vehicles and a motorcycle. The deadly impact left metal twisted and bodies sprawled on the road in a scene too gruesome to describe.
Among the confirmed dead are: Musa Kawesa, Asima Sanyu, Eric Bazale, Christine Nyamutoka (57),three others yet to be identified (two men and a woman).
Meanwhile, traumatized survivors from the Toyota Hiace taxis involved in the crash are fighting for their lives at Mulago Hospital.
Angry locals are now demanding action, saying Mayanja Valley is a well-known black spot that has claimed too many lives before. “They need to fix this road before more people die” one furious resident fumed.
Traffic Police spokesperson on Thursday confirmed that they have towed the wreckage to Kawempe Police Station as investigations continue, but the big question remains
