Kibalama says he was driven to Mbale and detained by the military for a full fortnight as the state grilled him to explain his dealings and transactions with the generational opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine. According to reliable reports, Kibalama’s troubles started when he had just completed transiting the party to Kyagulanyi’s leadership. The state had not at any point of time wanted Bobi Wine to have a fully fledged political party. Therefore what Kibalama did tantamounted to ‘treason’ before the eyes of the quaking regime.
During the cross examination, Kibalama asked court to grant him immunity and help him regain his freedom. He has also disowned the recent footage where he claimed to have agreed with the People Power movement to disburse $5m for the party transaction. Kibalama who appeared timid asked for medication which he even took from the court dock before decrying the presence of some of the faces of the security operatives (who abducted him) guising as civilians in the courtroom.
When asked by the NUP lawyer, Medard Sseggona as to whether he wants court to help him reclaim his freedom, Kibalama responded affirmatively. “I wish court helps me secure my freedom,” he states.
