The Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija has signed a grant agreement with H.E Kazuaki Kameda, the Japanese Ambassador to Uganda aimed at supporting efforts towards the fight against Covid-19.
According to the Ministry of Health, the move is for the economic and social development program support targeted towards the purchase of ambulances and medical equipment to address the impacts of COVID-19.
The grant fund is USD 3.8 million which is approximately Shs 14 billion.
Dr Diana Atwine, Health Ministry Permanent Secretary said, “This support is in form of 15 ambulances, 15,286 beds 286 other equipment like wheel chairs, generators and stretchers.”

Ambassador Kameda said that the most important thing now is that everyone adheres to the basic preventative measures of washing hands, wearing face masks and social distancing.
“I affirm, Your Excellency, that we shall fulfill our obligations under this exchange of notes,” Hon Kasaija said.
So far, Uganda has 6,468 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 63 fatalities.
