Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court judge Ponsiano Odwori has remanded Zia Murakatete Uwera (42), the manager and Gideon Odeke (40), a security manager at Dembe Trading Enterprises Limited to Luzira Prison on murder charges.
State alleges that Uwera, a resident of Bugolobi a Kampala surbub and Odeke, a resident of Bukerere in Mukono district intentionally murdered Mahad Muhammad who was a worker at Dembe Trading Enterprises Limited.
According to the charge sheet, state alleges that the accused together with others still at large murdered Muhammad after accusing him of stealing company properties.
It is further alleged that the accused first tortured the deceased inside the company premises at the Industrial area in Kampala city.
State further alleges that when the accused established that Muhammad was dead, they dumped his body at Jinja road police station. The officers at Jinja Road police took the body to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary and his family were alerted.
Sources at police’s Criminal Investigation Department(CID) disclosed that a strong decision was taken by Maj. Tom Magamba, the CID Director to take the accused’s criminal file to the Director Public Prosecution(DPP) for sanctioning because detectives handling the file were receiving a lot of threats from top government officials.
Sources said that Uwera is well connected to top army Generals in UPDF and in the Rwanda army and she was using some of these connections to compromise the CID Director.
Eunice Mbaine the State Attorney told Court that Investigations are still ongoing and the matter was adjourned to 2nd June 2022.
