Incarcerated self-claimed city businessman Charles Olim alias Sipapa and his wife Shamirah Nakiyimba are in more trouble after celebrated UPDF General, Rtd. Lt Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, who also doubles as the senior presidential advisor on security revealed shocking evidence against them.
On Friday, Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded Sipapa and wife to Luzira prison after they pleaded not guilty on six counts of aggravated robbery.
State alleged that the accused persons together with others still at large attacked South Sudan businessman Jacob Arok and robbed him Shs1.65b, television sets and expensive phones.
State further claimed that part of the exhibits was recovered at Sipapa’s home in Kira Municipality Wakiso district.
State added that they used CCTV cameras from Arok’s home to identify the accused persons and this evidence will be used by prosecution against the accused.
State claims that the footage secured by police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detectives from Arok’s home shows the accused person and others breaking into the house.
When they reached inside, they sprayed a certain substance which they suspect to be chloroform which made the victims lose consciousness and they robbed them clean.
Even though the accused persons denied the accusations against them, Lt. Gen. Nalweyiso insists that they committed the crimes.
“For a long time, I have been fighting against Sipapa and I directed security to withdraw UPDF and police guards from him because he is among the people who command criminal gangs in the city,” she explains in a recording released by the police’s CID department.
“I don’t think they are accusing him falsely. Sipapa is a thief, I have been on his case even police officers know that. He is one of the people who enter people’s apartments and they enter over 30 people to steal people’s laptops, phones even cars.”
She adds that Sipapa has been using the photos he took with powerful government officials to intimidate police officers and officers from other security agencies.
Nalweyiso pleaded with officers to stop being compromised while on duty and remember that they have a duty to keep Ugandans safe with their properties instead of being threatened by criminals like Sipapa.
“I request all people to intervene in this war and police officers to fight this,” she pleaded.
She cited another person who behaves like Sipapa who drives an army green Landcruiser V8 old model with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s photos as his motor vehicle number plate.
It should be remembered that during the 2021 general elections, Sipapa stormed the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices at Kamwokya and shot bullets at their gate injuring some of their supporters.
In another development, theGrapevine has established that among the star witnesses the state is going to parade to testify against Sipapa and his co-accused include the maid to Arok.
State alleges that in her statement, the maid told detectives that she remembers whatever happened when the accused persons stormed her boss’ home up to when she lost consciousness as a result of the substance they sprayed in the house.
The Maid was among the first suspects arrested by security but she was released from Kabalagala police station when officers established that she was innocent.
Security is still looking for other suspects who they claim work with the accused persons to terrorize Ugandans especially in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso.
Among the suspects on the run include a Chinese international and a senior female police officer who it is alleged have run out of the country.
