The third edition of the Kampala Geopolitics conference was launched Thursday during a press conference held at the French Residence in Kampala. On this occasion, the program of the six-month long discourse was also unveiled.
The event was graced by representatives of the organising partners: Ambassador Jules-Armand Aniambossou for the Embassy of France, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Country Representative Ms. Anna Reismann, UN Women’s Deputy Country Representative Ms. Adekemi Ndieli, Makerere University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eria Hisali and Alliance Française’s Head of Courses Ms. Magaly Losange. A prerecorded message of Dr. Pascal Boniface, Director of France’s Institute for Strategic and International Affairs (IRIS) was also broadcast.
In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s edition will be a held virtually; with some topics will be broadcast live on television from 19th to 30th October while others topics will be discussed online via zoom, skype and social media during the month of November.
Local, regional and international speakers will hold debates the Covid-19 crisis, women and power, the forth industrial revolution, the sports industry, Environment and conservation, geopolitics of the Nile water, youth entrepreneurship in Africa, the black lives matter movement and race relations, the Francophonie, Africa-Europe relations etc.

[Geopolitics may be defined as the study/application of the influence of political and economic geography on the politics, national power, foreign policy, etc., of a state.]
Inspired by Les Géopolitiques de Nantes in France, the Kampala Geopolitics Conference is a free public event discussing global political, social and economic issues of concern. It is organized by the Embassy of France in Uganda, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), UN Women Uganda, Makerere University, Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS) France and Alliance Française de Kampala.
Experts from Uganda and the region will be joined by international researchers and scholars to engage in interactive, dynamic debates on contemporary, local and international geopolitical topics.
The conference seeks to enhance dialogue, free speech, tolerance and democracy among other values.
It also aims to generate inertest locally for global issues but also cast a new light on Kampala and Africa generally as a major destination for quality discourse on global issues.
The first two editions of the Kampala Geopolitics were held at Makerere University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Africa, known for its [past] vibrant debating culture and for training numerous post-independent African leaders.
