Latif Ssebagala is the NUP Flag bearer for the Kampala mayoral race
Hajji Latif Ssebagala the recently handpicked NUP flag bearer for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat has called on his challenger Joseph Mayanja aka Chameleone to put aside their disagreements and work for the betterment of the party.
Hon Sebagala who edged out Chameleone in the controversial race for the NUP flag, yesterday said the vetting committee had done a good job to ensure that that only strong candidates emerge as flag bearers at various positions.
” I call upon loyal National Unity Platform members that weren’t selected to be flag bearers to team up with the official candidates for the good of NUP and for the good of Ugandans,” he said.
“My brother and comrade in NUP Mr. Joseph Mayanja, let us work together. If indeed you share our passion to push the National Unity Platform to greater heights and to also make sure Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi and all NUP candidates in various positions win over Kampala and Uganda at large under our stewardship come 2021, let’s soldier on, hand in hand! Because verily Victory belongs to those that believe in it the most and believe in it the Longest! ”
Since the declarations were made on Sunday, Mayanja has since protested the process and rallied the youths in Kampala to vote out the old political leaders.
Chameleon has invested heavily in this election to secure the NUP card including setting up a command center along Balintuma Road Kampala.
On the other hand, Latif had initially expressed interest to contest again in the Parliamentary position of Kawempe North but later on made a U turn and decided to compete with Chameleon for the mayoral seat.
