Kampala- The Electoral Commission (EC) has rolled out nominations for the local government councils.According to EC, nominations of candidates to contest for 45,127 elective positions at local government councils, start today and will end on October 1.Mr Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson, said the positions include district/city chairpersons and councilors, municipality/city division chairpersons and councillors, and sub-county/town/municipal division chairpersons and councillors.“All persons aspiring to contest in these positions are urged to familiarise themselves with the requirements as outlined by the EC,” Mr Bukenya said.“Aspiring candidates can collect copies of the nomination forms and guidelines from district EC offices across the country or obtain soft copies of the forms and guidelines from the website,” he added.Last month, the EC opened the exercise for aspirants to express interest in the various local government positions across the country. According to the EC website, district and city chairpersons are required to present at nomination centres at least an A-Level certificate, signatures of 50 registered voters from two-thirds of each electoral area and Shs200,000.Aspirants for municipality chairpersons, who are not less than 30 years and not more than 75 years, will be required to have 20 signatures of registered voters from each electoral area, and Shs100, 000 for nomination.For city division chairperson and sub-county/ municipality division councillors, aspirants who are not less than 30 years and not more than 75 years, will be required to present 20 signatures of registered voters and Shs50, 000 at nomination centres.The contenders for councillors at all levels will be required to present signatures of five registered voters from each electoral areas and Shs50, 000 at their headquarters.
