On Friday last week, National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) urgently summoned the party legislators for an emergency meeting at his home in Magere Wakiso district.
Multiple credible sources in NUP intimated to theGrapevine that top on the agenda of the emergency meeting was a briefing from Bobi Wine to the MPs on the health condition of their fellow legislators who were inprisoned in Kigo prison on murder, attempted murder and terrorism related charges.
During the meeting which was attended by most party legislators led by Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba the leader of opposition, Bobi Wine submitted a strong case rallying NUP legislators to find ways of saving their colleagues in prison.
He openly told them that Makindye West member of parliament Allan Ssewanyana is suffering from blood pressure and diabates and his friend Muhammad Ssegirinya is also suffering from a strange illness.
Bobi Wine pleaded with his legislators to support and accompany him and other party leaders to start a campaign that will put Museveni and the entire security on pressure so that they release their members or fast pace their prosecution.
Sources disclosed that all the members agreed that they should start addressing political rallies in both Makindye West and Kawempe North mobilizing the people to join them to protest against their legislator’s long imprisonment.
Sources added that NUP legislators also plan to use the said rallies to collect people’s problems and present them to parliament claiming that for over eight months now, the people in Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana’s constituencies have not been represented.
State alleges that Ssewanyana, Ssegirinya and others masterminded the panga wielding terrorists who killed over 26 old people in greater Masaka.
State further alleges that the accused wanted to incite the public against President Museveni’s government.
Bobi Wine’s meeting also discussed strategies on how to win the Omoro parliamentary by-election to replace fallen speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah.
NUP fronted Simon Toolit Akech as their flag bearer and it was agreed that the NUP legislators should support him politically and financially.
