Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has been called upon to rethink his approach to governance, amid allegations that his party’s foot soldiers are being neglected and deceived. Mbabazi Prossy, popularly known as Maama Muhoozi, a staunch NRM supporter, has blown the whistle on the party’s leadership, accusing them of lying to the President and misusing funds meant for mobilization.
Maama Muhoozi’s scathing attack comes on the heels of the Kawempe North By-election, which exposed deep-seated weaknesses within the NRM party. She claims that despite her efforts to mobilize support for the party, she has been consistently let down by the leadership.
“I have lost two family members, as a result of supporting the NRM party,” Maama Muhoozi lamented. “Yet, when facilitation comes, it’s used by those in big offices, leaving us foot soldiers with nothing.”
Maama Muhoozi also questioned the absence of Hajat Namyalo, the ONC National Coordinator, during the Kawempe North By-election. “Hajjat Namyalo has a big following, and her absence was surely a weakness,” she noted.
The NRM party’s Secretary General and entire Secretariat have also come under fire for failing to provide adequate support during the by-election. “They were supposed to be on the ground from day one, providing political advice,” Maama Muhoozi said.
As a foot soldier, Maama Muhoozi has witnessed firsthand the struggles of ordinary Ugandans and people don’t want elites but touching issues that affect them in daily life. She proposes that the party provides foot soldiers with essential items like pads, pens, and books to motivate young people afternoon motivation speeches, particularly in schools because they’re also prospective voters.
I am too grateful that at the National Patriotism office led by my boss Hellen Seku, we’ve done a lot of work in reducing bad acts amongst youth like abortion, suicide, drug abuse and others. I currently get my salary from Patriotism Office, though currently as a National Mobilizer am out of office shortly to canvass for support of my NRM Party nationalwide.
However, Maama Muhoozi’s efforts and other foot soldiers have been consistently frustrated by some office bearers who misuse their positions. “Some of them chase people away without giving them a hearing,” she said. “This act demoralizes most foot soldiers, making them feel segregated.”
Despite these challenges, Maama Muhoozi remains committed to the NRM party.
She went on to reveal that her personally and foot soldiers has met president Museveni 2 times in Mbala State Lodge during PDM tour and State House, Entebbe last year but but needed to get private time to tell Mzee their issues.
Maama Muhoozi noted that as a patriotic NRM supporter, she stocks much food in that in case neighbors approach her in dire need, at least they can’t go empty handed and this makes them feels like NRM mobilizers are caring and feels for people. “Some go with at least a kilo of sugar, posho, beans, bar of soap and other essential items also NRM T-shirts.”
As in the bible in Proverbs 19:17 (Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done). I copied this act from my former boss Hajjat Namyalo, the National Coordinator ONC whose used to give to the poor and always does so.
She has praised Minister Balaam Barugahara for his accessibility and willingness to listen. “His office is always open, and he picks calls at any time,” she said. And it is on this note that she condemned Office bearers who have decided to be like small gods not allowing to be accessed yet they’re supposed to serve interests of people and listen to foot soldiers to pick issues.
Maama Muhoozi has also called for greater coordination among NRM offices, particularly during election periods. “Our brand is one NRM and Museveni,” she emphasized. “If we don’t work together, we’ll continue to have issues.”
She also noted that while in Kawempe North By-election campaigns she observed many youth, children of veterans lamenting of being neglected which is a negative for NRM thereby asking President Museveni to have a solution for them in order to remain strong.
The plight of NRM foot soldiers has been further highlighted by Maama Muhoozi’s revelation that many have been defending the President on various media platforms, only to face persecution and neglect. “Most of them have fallen into problems, been beaten, chased out of their homes, and left without food,” she said.
“I personally receive about 3 calls a day to go to media houses but I feel demoralized because of neglect and deceit from our peers.” Maama Muhoozi.
As the NRM party gears up for future elections, Maama Muhoozi’s warnings serve as a stark reminder of the need for reform and accountability. Will President Museveni heed her call and take decisive action to address the concerns of his party’s foot soldiers? Only time will tell.
*FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY*, MAAMA MUHOOZI.
