A man in Mukono district is looking for 500,000 shillings to treat an injury he reportedly sustained at the hands of police officers.
Deo Wasswa, 27, a Boda Boda rider and resident of Kiyindi LC I in Kiyindi town council claims he was tortured by police officers at Kiyindi police station on allegations of theft.
The victim alleges that on June 15th, 2022, officers from Kiyindi police station forcefully dragged him from his residence to the police by his manhood.
He explains that by the time he reached the police post, he was bleeding and had swollen testicles. He says while at police, he was accused of stealing motorcycles and tortured further before finally being released.
“At police, they told me that I am involved in motorcycle robberies within the area since my official work is riding bodaboda,” Wasswa said.
Wasswa’s injuries have since worsened with his private parts rotting and in need of special treatment.
Isaac Edward Mazinga, the LC 3 Vice Chairperson of Kiyindi town council, says despite reporting the incident to the relevant authorities nothing is being done.
His mother, Cissy Namugga, says that they have failed to raise Shillings 500,000/= for a scan and her son’s treatment.
She says Wasswa can hardly wear panties and trousers and it takes him about half an hour to pass urine.
His wife has since abandoned him together with their two sons, who have also dropped out of school.
The Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Hellen Butoto appeals to the affected residents to report the matter to Lugazi central police station for an expeditious response.
“We condemn all acts of brutality and assault within the Police. We appeal to whoever has fallen victim to report to us for investigation. We shall always ensure justice is delivered to the victims,” Butoto notes.
