Initially, the Minister had underestimated Hilderman and thought he would not go as far as littering his posters all over the constituency. It is said, one can hardly make two steps without encountering a poster of the National Unity Platform party candidate, Hillary Kiyaga in Mawokota, something that is scaring the Minister. According to reliable sources, Minister Kyambadde has deployed her strategists to entice the singer out of the race but a stubborn Hilderman, who is now ubiquitous in the constituency says let the ballot give the verdict.
A source in the Hilderman camp told this site that since last week, Minister Amelia’s aides have been pressing for negotiations with the singer. “They want him to calculate all the costs he has incurred so far and refund it back,” he says. “They pledged to give him UGX 700m to withdraw. But Hilderman has refused the offer saying it is the people to judge by the ballot,” he adds.
The Minister has been restlessly pleading with Museveni to retain her in cabinet in case she is trounced in Mawokota. But reports from the NRM high command intimate that Museveni made it very clear that any Minister who loses an election in their constituencies will not bounce back in cabinet. It is against this, that the Minister is doing all it takes to woo Hilderman out of the race after realising that what she had taken for a joke is now becoming more than serious.
Dr Hilderman today ascertained the lingering rumours as a validity as he affirmed that he has been recieving phone calls from his opponent and incumbent Amelia Anne Kyambadde offering him 700million shillings to pull out of the Mawokota race.
Hilderman has advised the minister to use the 700 millions to change the lives of the people rather than buying him out. Amelia is not the only minister that is trying to use money to buy out opponents. During the concluded NRM party primaries, Minister Betty Kamya bribed Katongole Singh with about UGX 555m to back out of the race. The tendency is also reported in numerous constituencies where the incumbents are cabinet ministers.
