Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, the Kampala affairs minister has tasked controversial Owino market boss Suzan Kushaba, who was recently fired to task concerning the alleged Shs100m bribe they asked from her to save her office.
On Tuesday, while handing over market reports to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, Kushaba revealed that politicians in the city have been demanding bribes from fired market leaders to protect them.
She cited a top politician who asked her for Shs.100m a month.
“I rejected demands from politicians who asked for huge sums of money and threatened to work against us if we fail to meet their demands,” Kushaba said.
She explained that the old market leadership which they replaced were dishing out a lot of money to politicians, especially those in the opposition which they were using to carry out riots against president Museveni’s government.
However when contacted, minister Kabanda, a renown politician in Kampala rubbished Kushaba’s allegations and asked her to prove her claims and name the people she is talking about.
“Let her mention the name of the said politicians who have been demanding money from her instead of throwing blanket statements to tarnish peoples’ names,” Kabanda said.
She explained that many of the fired market leaders in the 16 government markets are trying to prove that there are people who fought them and convinced President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fire them, which is not true.
A furious Kabanda revealed that she has directed Kisaka to make sure that the fired market bosses vacate offices as the president directed so that KCCA takes over.
State house sources disclosed that president Museveni has a detailed report on how city politicians, his ministers and security bosses have been receiving millions of money in form of bribes to protect fired market bosses.
However, multiple credible sources told theGrapevine that the fired market bosses are to stay in their offices running other government development projects like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
