The Ministry of Health has received five brand new Type B ambulances to supplement the existing fleet towards boosting the fight against covid-19 and response to health emergencies.
Receiving the ambulances at the Ministry headquarters, Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister applauded SICPA for touching the life of a common person by responding to their health needs.
“These ambulances will go far in helping the health emergency team in picking covid-19 patients and taking them to isolation facilities safely,” said Aceng.
Aceng added that the increase in the number of ambulances will reduce the number of people who die due to lack of secure means of transport to referrals and other health facilities.
Dr Diana Atwine, the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary promised that they are working on a policy to ensure proper use of ambulances.
“As Ministry of Health, we have been facing a challenge of lack of enough ambulances. On several occasions, we have seen many ambulances being misused therefore we need to handle these ones properly,” said Atwine.
Suzan Kitariko, the General Manager for SICPA said that they have done this in response to President Museveni’s request to have an increase on the number of ambulances in the country in response to covid-19.
“We are working with various stakeholders to identify areas where our support can make a difference to support Uganda and its citizens during this difficult time. I am delighted that we have been able to provide valuable assistance to local people through this gift of five ambulances to the Ministry of Health,” Kitariko stated.
Kitariko added that the company’s mission is to contribute to the well-being of society at large by ensuring cash systems, value documents and sensitive goods are safer and more secure for use or consumption.
SICPA is the company which was contracted by the Government of Uganda to implement the Digital Tax Systems, supporting effective tax collection.
