Four-time presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye has cautioned public to forget about the Muhoozi-Museveni nonsense and focus on getting out of the current economic crisis.
Dr. Besigye made these remarks while appearing at the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party headquarters in Najjanakumbi today.
Besigye noted that when they launched the People’s Front for Transition (PFT), the cardinal area of their concern was the area to fight crisis of the people of Uganda.
“There was a crisis of survival and we wanted the country to focus on that so that our people can survive,” he said adding that they knew there wasn’t going to be any positive response from those who control the Ugandan economy.
He divulged, “And we are now where we are because of not taking heed and adjusting the country to deal with the crisis. We have double-digit inflation, meaning the value of our money has greatly been degraded, the value of everybody’s money has been greatly degraded and up to now you don’t see the response addressing that fundamental problem.”
Besigye further revealed that the budget that was made which the regime is using now, was approved in April this year and that the assumptions that were made in that budget were long overtaken by events hence causing inflation.
“Because if you have expenditure far outweighing your means, it means that you are going to spend what you don’t have and that is what has been happening. The government has been printing money to meet its obligation because they did not have a plan to get the money to spend in accordance to the inflation that we have.”
He adduced that it was until recently when they realised it was getting out of hand, that is why they borrowed from money lenders abroad.
He added, “The borrowing we have just had is a borrowing from money lenders to sustain a way of life of the parasites of Uganda while the country continues to descend into untold pain and suffering.
“So, everybody now must tighten their belts indeed like they said at the beginning except themselves and the tightening will break more and more people.”
About the current Ebola outbreak, Besigye propounded that he heard the Minister of Health lamenting that since the outbreak, no money has been released.
“So Ebola is not a priority but classified expenditure remains a priority! Most of the money we are borrowing from money lenders is now going to classified expenditure and secret expenditure in State House.”
He further disclosed that the announcement they heard of closing schools early is not an Ebola closure but an economic crisis closure just like the two-year closure of schools because of Covid19.
He maintained, “It was not a Covid closure, because eventually when they opened the schools, nothing had been done from what was there. It was an economic closure, they wanted to use the money for education for other things.
“And this is what they are trying to do now. It is ridiculous to say that Ebola is spreading in schools but you will only close them on 25th, November. So, what is happening between now and 25th?
“That is why we want to mobilise the whole country soon including the parents because education is too important to be left to the junta and be managed by the junta. Education is our survival as the people, we cannot just leave it to Mrs. Museveni and the other members of the junta.”
Besigye intimated that another crisis being manufactured is an attempt by the regime and especially its elites to focus the people to the next election.
He adduced, “Focusing everybody to 2026, that Muhoozi is the one coming for 2026 elections and then another time they say it is Museveni and now they are about to say the mother is also coming.
“So, they want to divert the country from this crisis and focus everybody on the useless timetable of 2026 because we all know 2026 will not bring anything.
“If we get to 2026, the way we are, we know that Museveni will be the president and he will bring out the guns and the announcement will come as usual and the same story as usual.
“But you find people saying; me I’m team Muhoozi, there is no team, its all hoodwinking the people of Uganda to be diverted and we must call upon our people to totally ignore this nonsense of whether it is Muhoozi or his mother.
“Forget all about that nonsense, let us focus on how we get out of this crisis,” Besigye said.
